England cricket stars warned over ‘Dirty Dozen’ fixers trying to corrupt World Cup

ENGLAND’S cricket stars have been warned about the Dirty Dozen fixers who are trying to corrupt the World Cup.

ICC anti-corruption chief Alex Marshall revealed all the teams on duty this summer have been shown a video including the names and faces of the 12 men at the heart of worldwide attempts to subvert the game.

Eoin Morgan and his side will also be accompanied by an ICC official whose job is to ensure no players are contacted by any of the fixers or their intermediaries.

Marshall said: “There are a dozen corruptors who I have personally contacted, through their solicitors, phone calls of WhatsApp messages.

“I have told them they are not invited to the World Cup.

“They have promised me they will  not be coming, but we know we cannot believe them.

“That is why we are taking additional measures to keep them away from tournament.

“We know that corruption does not take place at the grounds any more.

“It is at hotels, bars, nightclubs, when they are out shopping or in casinos.

“Every team will have a specialist anti-corruption manager, not just at matches but away from them too, looking out for these people.

“I can’t prevent someone getting on a plane.

“What I can do is keep communicating with them, tell them they are not invited to the World Cup and say if they are seen in a ground they will be thrown out.

“If they are seen anywhere around the World Cup, including team hotels, they will be asked to leave.”

Marshall admitted: “You can never guarantee that any event will be free of issues.

“But I can say the corruptors know how well protected this event is and how professionally it is run.

“Our anti-corruptors are working with the police and the National Crime Agency.

“This World Cup will be very very well protected.”
