I’ve seen my dad trying on dresses and make-up — but should I tell my mum?
DEAR DEIDRE: DAD was wearing a dress when I walked in on him.
When I asked why, he said it was a birthday present for my mum. But I know that was a lie. It wasn’t her size and her birthday isn’t for months.
I’m a boy aged 15 and know my dad is a bit strange. He doesn’t have many friends.
He’s 37 and he has long hair. I’ve also seen him at make-up counters at the shops.
My mum doesn’t wear make-up.
I am certain he’s a cross-dresser and I don’t know whether to tell my mum or confront him about his lies.

DEIDRE SAYS: I can understand you having very jumbled feelings about your dad cross-dressing but it won’t be easy for him and he won’t want to distress you.
Tell him you’re confused and that secrets always feel uncomfortable in a family – though of course your mum may know.
