Bernard-Henri Levy says ‘preachers of hated’ who use mosques to disseminate anti-Semitism and anti-Christian beliefs in France have to be expelled ‘without any hesitation’. The French philosopher has told the Outsiders there is a rising consciousness in Europe that jihad, as it is constituted now, is a crime rather than a set of beliefs. Mr Levy says that as a supporter of male-female equality, he refuses the idea of ‘big men having power over women and compelling them to hide themselves in the shadow of our sub-societies.’ He argues the veil is a political symbol, not a religious one.
