Fans in disbelief as Charlton score the ‘most stupid own goal’ ever at Wembley
CHARLTON defender Mouhamadou-Naby Sarr scored the “most stupid own goal” to give Sunderland an early lead in the play-off final.
Fans could not believe their eyes after the French defender’s back pass flew past Dillon Phillips and into the net.
Just five minutes into the showdown at Wembley, Sunderland took an unexpected lead.
Sarr passed the ball back to Phillips, but the goalkeeper was unable to control the pass despite his best efforts.
The goalkeeper chased the ball, but ended up crashing to the ground as he watched the ball glide into the net.
After a clip of the goal did the rounds on Twitter, one fan said: “Charlton just had one of the worst own goals I’ve ever seen in the League One promotion playoff.”
Another added: “That own goal by Charlton might actually be the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Oops”
