Boy desperately tries to wake up his ‘drugged-up’ zombie mum after she passes out on bus amid US opioid crisis
HEARTBREAKING footage shows the moment a little boy desperately tries to wake up his “drugged-up” mum after she appeared to pass out on the bus.
The young boy could be heard crying out: “Mum that’s our stop, that’s our stop.”
But the mum does not seem to hear him as she lolls forward on her seat, clearly unable to sit up straight.
A man travelling with the pair also appeared to lose consciousness in the distressing video, which is believed to have been filmed in the US.
He was filmed completely bent over while two iPhones were left on the ground beneath him.
Another passenger can be heard saying: “Damn bro, you’ve got to sit down man”.
Social media users suggested the video may have been filmed in New Jersey.
The mum could be clearly seen scratching her face at various points during the video.
Intense itching is a side effect of most opioids, including heroin, and is a sign of chronic heroin use or overdose.
America is in the grip of a devastating opioid epidemic which is showing no signs of slowing down.
A total of 399,230 US residents died from opioid-related causes from 1999 to 2017, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
That is the equivalent of the entire cities of New Orleans or Tampa or Cleveland being wiped off the map.
