Sosena Gebre Eyesus by Sosena Gebre Eyesus
Listen above to Sosena Gebre Eyesus's deeply spiritual and enchanting Ethiopian Orthodox hymns sung over the Begena, a ten string instrument also known as the Harp of David. Previously only on cassette, Eyesus's self-titled album is now available as a digital download or vinyl edition from the fine folks at Little Axe Records in Portland, Oregon.
Since ancient times the Harp of David has been used as an aural balm, a soother of evil and disturbed spirits —its low... Читать дальше...
Winds of up to 75mph have lashed northern Scotland this afternoon (January 7) causing foliage to fly into the road. In video of the winds on a highway by Dornoch bridge near Inverness, gorse bushes can be seen uprooted and flung into the oncoming path of drivers. Motorists have been braving the extreme weather most of the day but authorities have since closed the bridge.

Prime Minister Theresa May is trying to force her Brexit deal through parliament but lawmakers are expected to reject it. If so, business chiefs and investors fear the world's fifth-largest economy will leave the European Union at 2300 GMT on March 29 without an agreement on their future relationship. May's government has repeatedly warned that a no deal will lead to severe economic disruption, and Monday's exercise was part of preparations to ensure essential supplies can keep flowing through Dover, Europe's busiest ferry port. Robertson did well even before considering he was his own agent.
David Robertson recently signed with the Phillies on a two-year, $23 million deal, with a team option for $12 million. Having fired his agent, he actually represented himself during the negotiations, so he gets to save some money from the roughly five percent commission an agent normally gets.
I think he did well, but one has to wonder if he could have gotten that third year guaranteed if he had an agent involved.... Читать дальше...

The baseball edition
With 2018 in the books and 2019 spring training a couple of months away, I thought it a good time to reflect on America’s pastime, and specifically the Kansas City Royals, and consider the things we most appreciate about the game and the Royals. Feel free to add yours in the comments.
· Having one of the best stadiums in baseball.
· Walking through the tunnel and seeing the scoreboard and the grass, which is so
green it almost hurts your eyes. Читать дальше...
As my colleague Vlad Savov noted at IFA last year, legacy camera companies like Kodak and Polaroid have now become “brands of sadness.” Once industry-defining forces, their names don’t mean too much anymore after licensees have slapped their logos onto everything from cheap laptops to selfie sticks. You can see all of this in effect at Kodak’s CES booth every year where a company called C+A Global showcases all of the random Kodak-branded gadgets as far as the eye can see. This year, among the baby monitors and LED light bulbs... Читать дальше...
Unlike its parent company Amazon, Ring is going really big with public announcements at this year’s CES. The company is introducing 13 new products today, including a new doorbell, smart lights, smoke sensors, and more. It’s so many devices that it can be hard to keep track of them all, but the theme is that Ring is rounding out its ecosystem with products many of its users have been asking and waiting for. Most are refreshes of what we’ve seen before, but some add new integrations that simply make the Ring ecosystem a lot more connected. Читать дальше...
