Court rejects interim bail plea of golfer Jyoti Randhawa

A local court here rejected the interim bail plea of golfer Jyoti Randhawa and one other, arrested last month on poaching charges in Motipur range of Katarniyaghat. The sessions court fixed January 10 as the date for hearing the regular bail applications of Randhawa, whose full name is Jyotinder Singh Randhawa and his friend Mahesh Virajdar, district government counsel Sant Pratap Singh said. Agri, manufacturing to push GDP grow to 7.2 pc in 2018-19: CSO

Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.2 per cent in 2018-19, a tad higher from 6.7 per cent in the previous fiscal, mainly due to improvement in the performance of agriculture and manufacturing sectors, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said Monday. 230 kg heroin seized along the IB in Punjab in 2018: BSF

The Border Security Force seized 230 kg heroin and arrested 80 border crossers and smugglers along the Indo-Pak border in the Punjab frontier in 2018, a senior official said Monday. The BSF also seized 635 gram opium in the frontier last year, he said. Besides, 70 Indian border crossers, five Indian smugglers and five Pakistani smugglers were arrested during the period, the official said. The BSF also recovered 19 firearms of different kinds, 502 rounds of ammunition, six hand grenades, 10 Pakistani mobiles and 33 Pakistani sim cards, he added.

Cane dues: UP plans to extend Rs 4,000 cr soft loan to sugar mills

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Uttar Pradesh plans to extend Rs 4,000 crore of soft loan to sugar mills to help them clear sugarcane farmers' dues, which stand at about Rs 4,700 crore currently. The state government provided a soft loan worth Rs 4,000 crore in the last season (October-September) when the cane arrear was as high as Rs 34,400 crore.
