Hakeem al-Araibi faces long trial if he refuses extradition to Bahrain

Jailed refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi could face a lengthy trial if he rejects an extradition request from Bahrain. Authorities say a trial will go ahead that could last six months or more if al-Araibi refuses to return to the Middle Eastern country, which he fled in 2014 after criticising its government. The 25-year-old has been held in Thailand since arriving in Bangkok for his honeymoon on 27 November.

Woman killed over dowry demand

A newly married woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws over dowry demand at Pakki Garhi village under Garhi Pukhta police station in Shamli district, officials said Saturday. The deceased Sana Khan,28, had married one Ariz Hasan nine months ago. A case has been registered against the husband and five other in-laws, who are absconding, said Circle Officer Rajive Kumar Tiwari.
