West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra on Monday said the state has been able to create around nine lakh employment opportunities during the 2018-19 fiscal. In his Budget speech, Mitra said the country is still suffering from the "hasty and improper" implementation of the GST, and the "shock" of demonetisation. Drug firm Novartis India Monday reported a 31 per cent decline in net profit to Rs 12.87 crore for the quarter ended December 2018. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 18.74 crore for the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, Novartis India said in a filing to BSE. Revenue from operations of the company stood at Rs 135.62 crore, compared with Rs 156.10 crore for the same period a year ago. Shares of Novartis India closed at Rs 721.20 per scrip on the BSE, up 0.28 per cent from its previous close.

Karnataka Revenue Miniser R V Deshpande urged the central government to consider additional work on the NH-66 project, between Goa border and Kundapur in the state, to provide better safety. Police registered a case Monday after a complaint that morphed pictures of some women and girls, all belonging to the same village in the district, were posted online, officials said Monday. Kanta Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO), Sadar, said the district police chief's office has contacted the Facebook seeking details of the persons who posted the morphed nude images on the social networking site.
