Govt to waive HECS debts in education-focused ‘Closing the Gap’ strategy
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced a plan to waive teachers’ HECS debts if they work in remote Indigenous schools as part of a major revamp in this year’s ‘Closing the Gap’ strategy. Based on recommendations from Special Envoy on Indigenous Affairs Tony Abbott, up to 3,100 teachers at almost 300 schools will benefit from the plan if they commit to working in the remote locations for four years.
