Canada transport minister says won't ground planes after Ethiopia crash

Canada's transport minister said Monday he won't ground dozens of Boeing 737 MAX 8 jetliners operated by three Canadian carriers, unless an investigation into a deadly Ethiopia crash gives him reasons. Safety doubts over Boeing's best-selling model drove several carriers to ground the aircraft after a new jet crashed in Ethiopia, killing all 157 people on board, including 18 Canadians. Air Canada, Westjet and Sunwing operate 41 of the jetliners in this country.

US seizes nearly 1.5 metric tons of cocaine in New York

US authorities on Monday announced the seizure of nearly 1.5 metric tons of cocaine with a street value of USD 77 million, the biggest drug haul in nearly 25 years at the port of New York/Newark. Sixty bundles of the white powder weighing 3,200 pounds were found in a container at the port on February 28, the Drug Enforcement Administration said. US to take 'immediate and appropriate' action on Boeing jet if needed: regulator

US aviation safety officials said Monday they will take immediate action if they identify safety problems concerning Boeing's 737 MAX 8, two of which have now crashed in five months. "The FAA continuously assesses and oversees the safety performance of US commercial aircraft," the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. "If we identify an issue that affects safety, the FAA will take immediate and appropriate action.

The United States on Monday warned Germany about future "information sharing" if it uses "untrusted vendors" in its 5G telecom infrastructure amid debate over whether Chinese IT giant Huawei is an espionage risk.
