Speaking at the 10th China Business Conference held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC on 1 May, Deputy Director-General Alan Wolff said that all benefit from the existence of the multilateral trading system, not least the United States and China, and other major trading partners. He highlighted that WTO rules have a better track record of enduring than a solely bilateral understanding but stressed that “securing new rules with broad acceptance is imperative in order to underpin more stable trading relations for all concerned”. Agriculture Chair extends working group process, urges move towards negotiation mode

Most WTO members confirmed at a meeting of the Committee on Agriculture in special session on 30 April to 1 May their positive reaction to the working group process initiated in January, and supported the intention of Ambassador John Deep Ford, the committee chair, to extend the process until end-July while taking on board the concerns expressed by some delegations. He also called on WTO members to steer towards more negotiation-focused discussions, with a view to achieving concrete outcomes by the next Ministerial Conference in June 2020.

MONTREAT, N.C.– Montreat College's Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) hosted the annual Treaty's Awards on Tuesday to recognize and honor the college's top student-athletes. Among the awards given were male athlete of the year, female athlete of the year, freshman of the year, and team of the year. Additionally, a coach's award was given to an individual student-athlete from each athletic team.

OPEC Oil Production Slips To 4-Year Low

Crude oil production from OPEC declined to the lowest in four years last month, a Reuters survey has suggested, largely because of the continued fall in Venezuelan output and lower production in Iran resulting from U.S. sanctions. The only voluntary production cut that contributed to the decline was Saudi Arabia’s overcompliance with the OPEC+ pact from last December and a similar degree of restraint among the Kingdom’s Gulf neighbors and allies.
