Listening to self-chosen music regulates induced negative affect for both younger and older adults

Plos.org

by Jenny M. Groarke, Michael J. Hogan

The current study evaluated the efficacy of self-chosen music listening for the function of affect regulation comparing effects in younger and older adults. Forty younger (18–30 years, M = 19.75, SD = 2.57, 14 males) and forty older (60–81 years, M = 68.48, SD = 6.07, 21 males) adults visited the laboratory and were randomised to either the intervention (10 minutes of listening to self-chosen music) or the active control condition (10 minutes of listening... Prevalence and factors associated with neonatal hypothermia on admission to neonatal intensive care units in Southwest Ethiopia – A cross-sectional study

Plos.org

by Gebresilasea Gendisha Ukke, Ketema Diriba

Introduction

Neonatal hypothermia is one of the main underlying factors associated with neonatal deaths.

Objective

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and factors associated with neonatal hypothermia on admission to neonatal intensive care units in Southwest Ethiopia.

Methods

Institution-based cross-sectional study design was employed between February to September 2017 at intensive care units of Arba Minch and Jinka General Hospitals. Читать дальше...

Gravity model explained by the radiation model on a population landscape

Plos.org

by Inho Hong, Woo-Sung Jung, Hang-Hyun Jo

Understanding the mechanisms behind human mobility patterns is crucial to improve our ability to optimize and predict traffic flows. Two representative mobility models, i.e., radiation and gravity models, have been extensively compared to each other against various empirical data sets, while their fundamental relation is far from being fully understood. In order to study such a relation, we first model the heterogeneous population landscape by generating... Читать дальше...

Yin/Yang expression of CCN family members: Transforming growth factor beta 1, via ALK5/FAK/MEK, induces CCN1 and CCN2, yet suppresses CCN3, expression in human dermal fibroblasts

Plos.org

by Alexander Peidl, Bernard Perbal, Andrew Leask

The role of the microenvironment in driving connective tissue disease is being increasingly appreciated. Matricellular proteins of the CCN family are signaling modifiers that are secreted by cells into the extracellular matrix microenvironment where they have profound, context-dependent effects on organ development, homeostasis and disease. Indeed, CCN proteins are emergent targets for therapeutic intervention. Recent evidence suggests that, in vivo, CCN3 has effects opposing CCN2. Читать дальше...
