Printing press owner booked, official suspended over rape convict's photo on hoarding

The owner of a printing press was booked and an official of the Hoshiarpur District Election Office (DEO) suspended on Thursday for putting the picture of a 2012 Delhi gang-rape convict on a hoarding which encouraged people to vote, officials said. UP House passes Bill on pvt universities, oppn questions clause on 'anti-national' activities

The state assembly passed the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Bill on Thursday amid opposition protests over a clause that compels the institutes to provide an undertaking that they will not allow any anti-national activity on the campus. The Bill aims to bring 27 private universities in the state under an umbrella law, and also enforce transparency on fees and the admission process. DDA allots flats for wait-listed registrants ending 34-yr wait

After a 34-year wait, the Delhi government on Thursday conducted a draw for allotment of flats for the wait-listed registrants of DDA housing scheme, according to an official statement. The government said around 19,000 people had applied for Economic Weaker Section (EWS) flats in 1985 with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and deposited a registration amount of Rs 3,000. Netherlands hits new record temperature of 41.7C

The Netherlands hit a new high temperature record of 41.7 degrees on Thursday, meteorologists said, as a heatwave turned large parts of Europe into a furnace. The new record was set in the eastern Dutch town of Deelen, the Meteorological Institute said. The day before the Netherlands already saw its previous record of 38.6 degrees set in 1944 broken.

BSE's India INX daily turnover crosses all-time high of Rs 31,253 crore
