Slight dip in mercury in Delhi

A day after moderate rains were witnessed in parts of Delhi, the mercury dipped by a notch in the city, with the minimum temperature settling at 26.4 degrees Celsius. The national capital recorded an average rainfall of 47.4 mm from 8:30 am on Saturday to 8:30 am on Sunday, according to the Meteorological (MeT) Department. The relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 60 per cent. The maximum temperature recorded at the Palam, Safdarjung and Ayanagar stations were 36.6, 35.5 and 35.6 degree Celsius respectively. Kenya's Brigid Kosgei runs fastest-ever women's half-marathon

Kenya's Brigid Kosgei ran the fastest half-marathon ever by a woman on Sunday, winning the Great North Run in a time of one hour, four minutes and 28 seconds. Her time was 23 seconds quicker than the world record set in 2017 by fellow Kenyan Joyciline Jepkosgei but the course in the northeast of England is not eligible for records. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are calling for an end to fighting in southern Yemen between forces loyal to the internationally recognised government and UAE-backed separatists. The joint statement urges President Mansour Abed Rabbo Hadi's government and the secessionist Southern Transitional Council to prepare for "constructive" talks in Saudi Arabia. France says 1,500 died in summer's heat wave

France's health minister says 1,500 people died in this summer's heat wave in France but a campaign of public awareness saved many lives. Agnes Buzyn, speaking on France Inter radio Sunday, said there were over 1,000 more deaths that the annual average for the time of the year, and half of those were aged over 75. She said there were 18 days of recorded heat wave in France this year during June and July.
