Each family in deficit rainfall areas of Bihar to get Rs 3000

The Bihar Cabinet on Friday decided to provide Rs 3,000 as "immediate assistance" to all the families living in 896 panchayats of 18 districts affected by deficit rainfall or less crop sowing this year. Approving the Disaster Management Department's proposal, the Cabinet also sanctioned Rs 900 crore from the Bihar Contingency Fund (BCF) for this purpose, Principal Secretary Pratyaya Amrit told reporters here after the cabinet meeting. Minister shifts injured man to hospital

Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Tulsiram Silavat on Friday played the good Samaritan when he spotted an injured man lying on the roadside. Vinod Rao (29) was lying unconscious on Indore-Sanver Road with his motorcycle next to him, apparently after meeting with an accident. Silavat, who was traveling in a convoy, saw him and stopped his car, an official said. The minister took him to a nearby private hospital. Rao was now out of danger, the official added.

The Congress on Friday announced its candidates for Assembly bypolls in five seats in Uttar Pradesh. In a statement, the party named Umesh Kumar Diwakar, Sneh Lata, Karishma Thakur, Sunil Mishra and Rajmangal Yadav as its candidates from Ignis, Tundia, both reserved for scheduled castes, Govindnagar, Jalalpur and Ghosia seats respectively. Forex reserves soar USD 1 bn to USD 429.60 bn

The country's foreign exchange reserves increased by USD 1.004 billion to USD 429.608 billion in the week to September 6, helped by a rise in foreign currency assets, RBI data showed on Friday. In the previous week, the reserves had fallen by USD 446 million to USD 428.604 billion. The reserves had touched a life-time high of USD 430.572 billion in August this year.
