Man who threatened Paris officers with knife shot to death

A man who allegedly lunged at a Paris police patrol with a knife and threatened to kill the officers was shot to death Friday in the French capital's main business district, two police officials told The Associated Press. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation, said the officers were not injured in the attack at La Defense. They said the officers used their service weapons against the assailant, who died a short time later.

J-K forms panel for implementation of tobacco control programme

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday set up an apex-level coordination committee for implementation of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and provisions of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) in the Union Territory. Woman jumps off 3rd floor of Maha secretariat, saved by net

A 32-year-old woman on Friday tried to commit suicide by jumping off the third floor of state secretariat 'Mantralaya' in south Mumbai, but survived as she landed in safety net. The incident took place in the afternoon, the police said. The woman, who was taken into custody by the police, is resident of Ulhasnagar in neighbouring Thane district, an official said. A safety net was installed on the second storey of the secretariat following similar suicide attempts in the past.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has cancelled his visit to two Northeastern states -- Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh -- on Sunday and Monday next, officials said. The cancellation comes amidst widespread protests in Assam and Meghalaya against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The home minister's visit to the Northeast has been cancelled, a home ministry official said, without citing any reason.
