Dan Gilbert ‘awake, responsive and resting comfortably’ after stroke

The Cavs owner was taken to the hospital on Sunday.

According a statement from Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is “awake, responsive and resting comfortably” after suffering a stroke on Sunday.

Gilbert, 57, was taken to the hospital yesterday with stroke symptoms and suffered a stroke at the hospital. He then underwent a procedure before being moved to the Intensive Care Unit.

“Dan Gilbert and his family are grateful for the outpouring of support following the news of his hospitalization early Sunday,” Farner said, according to the statement. “Dan was not feeling well Sunday morning so he was taken to the hospital by a family friend. While under care at the hospital, he suffered a stroke and was immediately taken in for a catheter-based procedure, then moved to recovery in the Intensive Care Unit. Dan is awake, responsive and resting comfortably. Dan and his family are immensely grateful to the doctors and nurses whose early intervention is already paying dividends toward his recovery.”

Gilbert was spoke publicly last week when the team introduced John Beilein as its new head coach. He has owned the Cavs since 2005 with the team winning a title in 2016.
