Congratulations to the Riders of the Epic 400k - Next up Hampshire Rock River 200k
This past weekend was the epic "My Eyes Are Bleeding" 400k. It's the most audacious 400k GLR has ever hosted. Everyone that finished was both tired and elated at the accomplishment. "I now know what my physical limits are," was the quote from Mike Nichols. "No one will ever claim you are too soft as an RBA again", came from Brian Lewis-Jones.
A strong tailwind at the start helped riders get a head start before the larger hills started. The weather was beautiful bordering on hot for most of the day though the wind wasn't always friendly. Rains came very late in the night for a short but intense downpour. Only two people didn't make it to the finish with digestion problems. 7 of the 13 starting riders finished together at 6:00 am. All had pasties and cheesecake waiting at the finish.
Our latest star volunteer, George Mickleson helped a rider with a broken rear derailleur get back moving up the Blue Mound to the picnic at the top. However, Barlow Hill, as expected, proved to be the most ferocious hill of the ride. You can all thank Greg Wood for that one. It will be back for the 600k.
Next up: Hampshire Rock River 200k - June 8 at 7:00 am
This is a relaxed and pretty 200k from the Hampshire Forest Preserve to Oregon and back. Rolling hills and a trip across the Rock River at Byron along with some cool views of the Byron Nuclear Power Plant are features of this laid back and fun ride.

This ride is being led by Ride Master Regina Schurman. It's a great ride and a great way to spend a Saturday. We hope to see you there.
