Victorian Mares ready to Rumble
Following on from the Weanling sale last week, the Victorian Vendors are well represented at the Magic Millions National Broodmare sale.
Going under the hammer from Tuesday, there is a great selection of mares both in foal to Victorian sires and Victorian based breeders that are ready to compete at Australia’s biggest breeding sale.
Looking at the vendors, here are a few of the standouts in their own words:
Nagambie’s Yarran Thoroughbreds are offering three very well-bred mares all in foal to some of Australia’s hottest stallions.
Lot 1354, the Choisir mare Manhattan Muse who is in foal to Pierro has been popular, as had her stable mates the Snitzel mare Summit Breath in foal to Capitalist. But the real stand out for Yarran’s Rachel Doherty is Lot 1718, the Statue Of Liberty mare Alice Island.
“She is a lovey big, strong, striking steel grey mare that is in foal to Fastnet Rock. It’s a well proven cross with Fastnet Rock mares over Storm Cat sitting at an exceptional percentage of stakes winner to runners of 17%. A winner herself, she is out of the Shagny mare Shu Shu Lara, a full sister to the Group 3 winner Miss Steele.”
Retired sound and with an early cover, she has certainly been popular with the buying bench.
While just down Northwood Road, Swettenham Stud is also offering three well credentialed mares, all in foal.
Lot 1013 is the More Than Ready mare, Baby Shoes who is foal to Brazen Beau. A Group 2 winner, she has already proven that she can produce with a cracking Toronado filly on the ground. Also, in foal to Brazen Beau is the Flying Spur mare, Real Spur. From the family of Sunday Joy and Tuesday Joy she has produced the Listed placegetter Follow My Dust. While the third mare and bound to be busy parading, is the Charge Forward mare Leica Forward who is in foal to the incredibly popular stallion, Zoustar.
Moorookyle Park was delighted to offer Lot 813, Certain Ellie, on behalf of stud client, Newminster Throughbreds. The impressive and correct mare sold early on Tuesday morning for $45,000.00 to NSW’s Asute Bloodstock.
While other vendors offering cleverly selected mares include Makybe Stud with two mares in the sale. Lot 1293 is the Snitzel mare Koizora who is in foal to Caravaggio, and Lot 1628, catching the buyer’s eye is the Dane Shadow mare, Tempting from the family of Group 1 winner Hurtle Mertle, in foal to the late stallion Sebring.
Noorilim Park will offer three mares in foal to Dundeel, complimented by mares in foal to Brazen Beau, Capitalist and Shooting To Win.
“We have a great selection of mares from some of the most popular stallions of the moment. The mare Prosecution is particularly lovely and will be a standout during inspections. Her dam is impressively a blood sister to Silent Witness,” Sullivan said.
“We will also offer the Toorak Toff mare, Fleet Of Foot, the half to 5-time Group 1 winner Santa Anna Lane. A notable maiden mare, she was covered by Dundeel in early October.”
Other Victorian vendors include Blue Gum Farm offering three mares, Lauriston with a strong draft of five and Rosemont with 13 mares to present.
Rosemont’s Gerard Jones points out two lots that are worthy of a special mention.
“Lot 1314 Legal Mistress has been very popular. She is a young mare in foal to I Am Invincible and a half to Group 1 winner Griante, out of a mare a half to a Group 1 winner, Grand Journey.”
“Lot 1341 is Luminous Harmony who is a full sister to Group 3 winner Neena Roc. A proven producer with both foals to race being winners, she is currently in foal to hot stallion Zoustar.”
“Both mares are very attractive and correct, and there is no doubt that they will be a wonderful acquisition to any commercial broodmare band.”
The sale kicked off today and continues until Friday. We wish all Victorian buyers and breeders the best of luck.
