A British personal trainer has been found dead in a garden in the Bahamas in mysterious circumstances.

Dannie Lea, 29, was discovered on a lawn in the capital Nassau around 5pm on Sunday.

Mr Lea, a father of one, was from Stoke-on-Trent.

Paramedics were called to the scene on Yamacraw Hill Road but he was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said postmortem had been scheduled to establish the circumstances of his death.

Superintendent Joy Bosfield told local press Mr Lea was found in his underwear, at a property where there appeared to have been a break-in though nothing had been stolen.

Tributes to Danny flooded in on the Stoke on Trent Live Facebook page, which reported his death.

‘Rest in paradise Dannie you will be missed by so many,’ Kim Freeman wrote. ‘My thoughts are with all the family at this sad time.’

Such a tragic loss, a proper gent. You’ll be missed Dannie,’ Alexandra Poole said.

Daniel Waters said: ‘RIP Danny boy great lad and one good dad.’

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Ison, from Staffordshire Police, told the Stoke Sentinel: ‘We have not received any direct contact from The Bahamas state, however there may be a delay due to the initial investigative response.

‘Staffordshire Police will liaise with HM Coroner for North Staffordshire to ensure if we need to provide support to a local bereaved family, then we are able to and provide the necessary links through our Foreign and Commonwealth Office.’

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: ‘Our staff are supporting the family of a British man following his death in the Bahamas, and are in contact with the Bahamian authorities. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.’
