Epsom Oaks 2019: Ante-post favourite Mehdaayih supplemented as 16 go forward for the Group 1 on Friday
SCINTILLATING Cheshire Oaks winner Mehdaayih heads the market after being supplemented for Friday’s Investec Oaks at Epsom.
John Gosden’s filly romped home at Chester and connections were willing to stump up the £30,000 supplementary fee to add her to the Classic field.
Unibet have her as the clear 9-4 favourite with Aidan O’Brien’s Pink Dogwood at 3-1.
The three-year-old notched up a comfortable victory at Navan on her last start and has to be respected coming from the Irish maestro’s team.
However, Gosden has a number of talented fillies this year and has a second string to his bow in Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Anapurna.
The Frankel filly lived up to her breeding with a taking win at Lingfield and still looks to be learning plenty.
Anapurna can be backed at 7-1 along with Pretty Polly Stakes winner Maqsad who looked top-class when bolting up on the Rowley Mile.
Hermosa – the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas winner – can be backed at 12-1 but she is doubtful for the race after landing the Irish 1,000 Guineas on Sunday.
Joseph O’Brien’s Iridessa finished behind Hermosa at Newmarket and also in the Irish 1,000 Guineas on Sunday. She currently sits in the market at 16-1 if she is to have a quick turnaround.
Oaks odds
- 9-4 Mehdaayih
- 3-1 Pink Dogwood
- 7-1 Anapurna, Maqsad
- 12-1 Hermosa, Lavender’s Blue
- 14-1 Manuela De Vega, Frankellina
- 16-1 Iridessa, Tarnawa
- 33-1 bar
Amanda Perrett’s Lavender’s Blue has been nibbled at in the betting and is now 12-1 after her good second in France against some talented fillies.
Manuela De Vega and Frankellina can be backed at 14-1 after performing well in Oaks trials without winning, while Dermot Weld’s Tarnawa has made steady progress this season and must be respected at 16-1.
The field is completed by Blue Gardenia, Delphinia, Fleeting, Peach Tree, Tauteke and Sh Boom who are all priced at 33-1 or bigger with Unibet.
Early look:
As expected John Gosden’s fillies dominate near the head of the betting and there are plenty of fillies going into this with big reputations. However, Maqsad looked like a potential superstar at Newmarket and can live up to that performance. The likes of Taghrooda, Talent and Oujia Board have all won the Pretty Polly before landing the Oaks at Epsom.
