San Francisco mall evacuated, weapon-wielding man take into custody
SAN FRANCISCO – Westfield Mall on Market Street was evacuated for a time Sunday evening on a report of a man swinging an undisclosed weapon, San Francisco police said.
Police were notified about the man, whose identity and age were not available, around 6 p.m.
The man, who had “a potential weapon,” according to police, was located and detained between the Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch stores.
“He caused enough stir to have people leave the mall due to the potential level of violence he could inflict,” said officer Robert Rueca, department spokesman. “But when we contacted him he was compliant.”
The man has been taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
