Iker Casillas’ wife leaves hospital after op to remove ovarian cancer tumour just weeks after Real Madrid legend’s heart attack
IKER CASILLAS’ wife Sara Carbonero has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumour.
Carbonero recently revealed she was fighting ovarian cancer just weeks after her husband suffered a shock heart attack in training with Porto.
She underwent surgery at the Ruber International clinic in the Spanish capital Madrid to remove a malignant ovarian tumour and she has now returned home.
The 35-year-old took to social media after arriving back home, posting a photo of the flowers she had received with the message: “At home now and everything’s in order.
“Thank you so much for all the shows of affection that I have received in the last few days.
“I would love to respond to them one-by-one but it’s impossible.
“Now it’s time to get strong and continue. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart.”
Local TV programme ‘Ya Es Mediodia’, broadcast by Mediaset, report that Carbonero’s medical team confirmed everything “had gone to plan” and the sports journalist and TV presenter was “strong and in good spirits”.
PORTO’S CASILLAS TRIBUTE
The Ruber International clinic had confirmed the operation had “been a success without incident”.
Carbonero’s revelation of her ovarian cancer came three weeks after her husband suffered a heart attack in training which could spell the end of his professional career.
And in Saturday’s Portuguese Cup final he broke down in tears as his Porto team-mate paid heart-warming tribute to the legendary keeper.
Tiquinho Soares celebrated his goal by holding up the Real Madrid and Spain hero’s shirt.
After Soares, 28, opened the scoring, Porto manager Sergio Conceicao picked Casillas’ shirt up and threw it on to his players celebrating on the pitch.
