Chris Evans gets emotional as he joins teenage cancer survivors at boat BBQ after celebrating recovery
CHRIS Evans admitted he got emotional as he joined teenage cancer survivors celebrating recovery by going sailing with pals.
The Virgin Radio host presented live from the Isle of Wight today where the charity Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust was founded.
The organisation, created by Dame Ellen MacArthur. takes young people aged between eight and 24 for a week of activities after beating cancer.
Chris explained: “The format for the kids is that they arrive on the Monday and leave on the Thursday.
“It’s four nights on board the boat and then they have this BBQ farewell which I’ve seen.
“I had to go and have a little moment for myself because I got so emotional.
“I knew some of the situations and challenges of the kids. But they were literally having the time of their lives.”
The event helps to rebuild the cancer survivors’ confidence after beating the disease.
Dame Ellen MacArthur said: “When a young person is diagnosed with cancer they have their entire world pulled out from underneath them and lose all their confidence and their courage.

“They fight their illness and then they finish their treated and they’re just expected to get back on with normal life.
“They don’t have a normal life anymore so that’s when we step in.
“We take the young people out on boats across the water to help put the pieces of the puzzle back together and be with people who get it, and understand.”
