7 Pairs of Shoes People Think Are Ugly, But We Think Are Totally Cool

0

* The best “ugly” sneakers for men
* From brands including Nike, Adidas and Asics
* Eye-catching designs that are not for everyone

Ugly sneakers have been one of the most talked-about trends of the past couple of years. Most celebs and style influencers (including Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Luka Sabbat) have embraced the eye-catching style, but some more conservative fashionistas are still firmly against the chunky, wacky kicks.

If you’re ready to rock some ugly sneakers this summer, we say go for it. However, nailing the look requires the right kicks; some ugly sneakers are just… well… ugly.

To help you find the right ugly kicks we rounded up some of our favorites that won’t break the bank (those Balenciagas will have to wait). They feature statement-making colors and silhouettes that are great for upgrading your 2019 summer wardrobe with some ugly cool. Check them out below.

1. Adidas Ultra Tech Sneaker

These Adidas Ultra Techs elevate the 90s running shoe with some modern ugly sneaker style notes. Besides their stylish look, they also provide serious comfort for running errands or traveling with a chunky sole and a mesh construction. Plus, at just $59 right now, they’re quite a steal too.

2. Adidas Crazy BYW Sneaker

What do you get when you combine a 90s basketball sneaker, running shoes, and Yeezys? The Adidas Crazy BYW. The name doesn’t lie – they are a little crazy – but they’re actually surprisingly easy to wear with an everyday outfit such as joggers or jeans and a casual t-shirt or hoodie.

3. Nike Air Skylon II

Retro style and a bold “total orange” colorway make these lesser-known Nikes stand out from the crowd. We like them because they’re certainly unusual and eye-catching, but still low-key and reasonably priced.

4. Adidas NBHD Kamanda

These Adidas NBHDs are a collaboration with Kamanda, a Tokyo-based brand that has quietly gained a decent following recently. The kicks feature an olive colorway and a very unique design with a large, scale-like sole and off-center laces. We suggest rocking them with equally modern athleisure or casual wear, such as monotone sweats and a bold logo sweater or tee.

5. Nike Air Max 270

These Air Max 270s don’t look like your typical Nikes. They showcase a technical look with a webbed TPU cage over a double Nike Swoosh, and a chunky Air Max sole for comfort and style points.

6. Salomon S/LAB

Hiking-inspired sneakers have blown-up recently with designers such as Gucci and Acne Studios making trail-ready kicks (that you’d never actually wear hiking, of course). These Salomons provide the original look that’s inspiring the designers, and they cost a fraction of the price. Wear them this summer with baggy chinos or sweats and a statement-making shirt.

7. Asics Kiko Kostadinov

Asics running shoes are not necessarily “cool” – and neither are bright yellow shoes – but that’s why these bright yellow Asics nail sneaker style in 2019. You can rock them with equally out-there clothing such as bright athleisure, or use them to ground a simple monotone outfit such as black chinos and a white tee.
