Sweden now imports rubbish from all over the world for its recycling plants going

0

Sweden for several years has imported rubbish from across the world to keep its recycling plans operational, making the world a safer place.

Less than a percent of Swedish household waste has gone to the landfill since 2011 as the recycling method of utilizing waste has been effective, UK Independent reports.

Sweden is also one of the countries that implemented a big tax on fossil fuels in 1991 and now gets almost half of its electricity from renewables.

Anna-Carin Gripwall, the director of communications for Avfall Severige, the Swedish Waste Management, said that Swedish people are very much in love with nature and understand the need to keep the environment clean.

He said: “Swedish people are quite keen on being out in nature and they are aware of what we need do on nature and environmental issues. We worked on communications for a long time to make people aware not to throw things outdoors so that we can recycle and reuse.”

Sweden also created a policy that supported that even when private companies burn wastes, the energy from the burning must go into a national heating network to heat homes through cold Swedish winter.

“That’s a key reason that we have this district network, so we can make use of the heating from the waste plants.

“In the southern part of Europe they don’t make use of the heating from the waste, it just goes out the chimney. Here we use it as a substitute for fossil fuel,” he added.

Gripwall also added that the recycling main aim is to stop people from making waste by repairing, sharing, and reusing instead of throwing things away.
