Get a free PS4 or the best headphones money can buy with Sony Xperia 1 deal

0

IF you pre-order Sony’s latest blower you can get a free PlayStation 4.

That offer comes courtesy of Vodafone, if you plump for a £54-a-month contract.

The phone feels surprisingly light in the hand

You’ll get unlimited calls and texts and 15GB of data over their super-speedy 4G.

The PS4 comes with the excellent Marvel’s Spider-Man, and the bundle would normally set you back £279.99.

  • Vodafone, £54-a-month Xperia 1 contract with FREE PS4 – pre-order

That’s not the only amazing freebie on offer, though.

The Xperia 1 is meant to be a mobile entertainment powerhouse, with a gorgeous 4K 21:9 aspect-ration screen perfect for watching movies on the go.

Being able to see the movie in ultimate detail will be for nothing if you can’t hear it too and that’s where the next offer comes in.

If you get the Xperia 1 from Carphone Warehouse or direct from O2 or Sky Mobile then you can get a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 noise-cancelling headphones.

Listed at £329 they might seem like an even better deal but you can regularly get them for under £270.

The price is almost immaterial though, because these really are the best wireless headphones money can buy.

  • Carphone Warehouse, £49-a-month Xperia 1 contract, £9.99 upfront – pre-order now
  • O2, £42.67-a-month Xperia 1 contract, £30 upfront – pre-order now
  • Sky Mobile, £31-a-month Xperiea 1 contract – pre-order now

You’ll have to be quick, though. O2’s offer is only open until  Thursday May 30, while Sky’s closes at 23:59 on May 29.

Details on how long Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse’s offers will run aren’t currently available, but don’t expect them to stick around for long either, as the phone comes out on Thursday.

Sony WH-1000XM3 review

WE'RE not exaggerating when we say these are the best headphones that money can buy right now.

The sound quality is fantastic, they’re comfortable enough to wear for long periods, and the noise-cancelling is nothing short of magic.

That tech means they shine most on planes, trains and automobiles because they block out the engine noise brilliantly, and do a fine job on everything else to boot.

It doesn’t matter if you’re on a long-haul flight, commuting in a packed train carriage or on a bus, you’ll be able to hear whatever you’re listening to clearer than you’ve ever heard it before.

They run for 30 hours between charges, and can grab five hours of power from a battery pack in just 15 minutes if you run out.

As well as being able to play high-quality music flawlessly, they even make your existing tunes sound better thanks to their upscaling of compressed files that works just like your 4K telly does when displaying normal HD content.

At around 300 quid they aren’t cheap, but you won’t find a better pair anywhere for any price.

And if you can get a pair for free…

Sony Xperia 1 review – hands-on and first impressions

By Harry Pettit, Senior Digital Technology and Science Reporter

I’ve spent a little bit of time with the Xperia 1, and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so far.

Its big selling point in the 21:9 aspect ratio, which makes the phone exceptionally long.

It’ll certainly turn heads on the bus or train, and the phone’s enormous 6.5″ display takes some getting used to.

However, once your eyes adjust to all the “CinemaWide” 4K OLED screen, it’s a great experience.

Only the black and purple models are available in the UK at the moment
Sony

Watching Netflix shows or YouTube in 21:9 – just like you would in a movie theatre – is a dream, though I’m not sure that alone will be enough to tempt most consumers.

And while it’s got a lot of screen, the front of the device noticeably lacks the gorgeous all-screen display as the Samsung Galaxy S10 or Honor View 20, both released this year.

This leaves it with a significant chin and forehead that sticks out like a sore thumb when you consider how long the device is.

Sticking with design, I am a fan of Sony’s colour scheme, particularly the purple.

It’s a bold choice, but in a world of purely black and white handsets it’s nice to see someone trying something different.

The Xperia 1 has an incredibly tall screen, with a 21:9 aspect ratio

The blower is surprisingly light given its size, and fits nicely in the hand.

But I’m not sure how it’ll fair in smaller pockets.

I asked a couple of female friends (hold your applause) to try it out, and some of them couldn’t get the thing in their pocket without a huge portion sticking out of the top.

The rear camera is a triple-lens beast that takes great photos, with the software behind it to boot.
