Meghan Markle lookalike running to be new mayor of Madrid
It seems Meghan Markle has a twin we never knew about – and she’s hoping to become the next mayor of Madrid.
Mayoral candidate Begoña Villacis, 40, has been widely compared to the Duchess of Sussex throughout her electoral campaign not only for her similar looks but also for her strikingly similar outfits.
The politician was pictured on Sunday pushing her newborn daughter in a pram, while wearing a white double breasted coat which bore a strong resemblance to that worn by the Duchess during her first photocall with baby Archie.
On Sunday the politician wore her hair in a sleek, straight style, with soft make-up similar to that of the Duchess, sparking national news outlets and many on social media to compare the two mothers.
But the similarities don’t end there – Villacis even wed her partner on the same day as Harry and Meghan on May 19, last year.
The politician also fell pregnant at practically the same time as the Duchess and gave birth to her daughter Ines on May 17, just 11 days after the birth of the royal baby.
It’s not the first time mother-of-three Villacis has stepped out donning similar outfits to the Duchess, 37, with many suggesting the mayoral candidate did so in a bid to boost her campaign.
Villacis is no stranger to the comparisons and once posted on Twitter: ‘Between Buckingham Palace and the City Hall, I am sorry but I am going to stay in Madrid.’
On another occasion she said: ‘People always stop me in the street to ask me if I am Meghan. It can be very funny sometimes.
‘My daughters tease me about it a lot.’
Villacis stepped out in her white coat to vote in Spain’s local, regional and European Parliament elections held on Sunday.
The mother stood as a mayoral candidate for Spain’s centre-right party Ciudadanos (Citizens).
Following results on Sunday, three parties could now join forces to govern the Spanish capital, including Villacis’ Ciudadanos, the conservative Popular Party (PP) and far-right Vox.
