Son drowned trying to rescue confused dad who sleepwalked over side of boat
A man drowned trying to rescue his confused father who fell off a boat while sleepwalking.
Jeremiah Isreal, 34, died Sunday while he and his 64-year-old father went fishing in West Point Lake in Georgia.
The pair tied their boat up to a bridge and Isreal’s father, who has not been named, fell asleep. He later woke up to use the restroom and, thinking he was still at his home, he fell into the water.
Isreal jumped into the water after his dad in an attempt to rescue him, but he never resurfaced.
Nearby boaters helped get the father back into his boat. Afterwards, he was taken to West Georgia Medical Center and released.
On Monday, Isreal’s body was recovered by authorities.
It was still close to the bridge that the boat was tied up to when the son jumped into the water after his father.
In a press release, police called Isreal’s death a ‘tragic accidental drowning,’ according to NBC.
