Bizarre £700 alarm clock ‘wakes up anyone unless they’re dead’ by inflating under your mattress
A RELENTLESS new alarm clock promises to rouse even the most determined oversleeper – by bending your spine until you get out of bed.
As well as a standard alarm beep, the timepiece drags you from your slumber by essentially inflating an airbag under your mattress.

It thrusts your spine into an uncomfortable arch so that sleep is next to impossible.
Japanese engineers behind the £700 system, dubbed the “Timely Wake-up Device”, promise it “wakes up anyone unless they’re dead”.
They say it’s designed not to cause serious injury.
Consisting of a bag, air pump and a timer, the gizmo is essentially a pillow that rapidly inflates when the designated time is up.
Placed under your mattress, it repeatedly inflates before deflating slightly and inflating again.
As if that wasn’t enough, a separate sound system blasts your ears with loud noises to help the process along.
The aggressive device can only be turned off by pressing both thumbs firmly on two separate buttons.
It’s built by Japanese railway company JR East, who invented it in 1964 to rouse lazy employees.
It got such a great response, the company now offers it to members of the public for a hefty fee.
Those hoping to own one can purchase a unit online here, though they only ship to Japan for now.
