Aldi is selling a foot-long sausage for £2 as it launches meat deals for Father’s Day
PLANNING a BBQ for Father’s Day? You can’t go wrong with visiting Aldi first.
This is because the budget supermarket will sell a foot-long sausage for £1.99 just before the big day on June 16.
Aldi’s also bringing back its so-called “Big Daddy” rump steak, setting you back £4.99 for 16oz of meat (£1.09 per 100g).
And it’s rolling out a porchetta joint weighing a whopping 1.5kg, which will cost you £9.99 (67p per 100g).
The sausages are made with 100 per cent British pork, and have been infused with South Carolina sauce, which is a mustard-based barbecue sauce.
For now, Aldi is also the only major supermarket in the UK to be stocking such giant sausages on shelves – although that could obviously still change.
In October, Morrisons brought back its own foot-long bangers for 85p each or £1.50 for two.
Meanwhile, the 454g Aldi steaks are made with 100 per cent British beef that’s matured for 21 days.
These are the largest single rump steaks we could find on sale in the UK’s major supermarkets.
Many sell similar sized packs but they come with two steaks rather than just the one.
But if you’re not bothered by size, Aldi can be beaten on price. Asda, for example, has two 21-day matured rump steaks at 475g for £4.75 (£1 per 100g).
And at Tesco you can get one 227g rump steak for £2.34 (£1.03 per 100g).
Meanwhile, none of the big four supermarkets – Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s or Tesco – are selling porchetta joints.
But if you instead shopped at posher supermarket M&S, a bigger 2.2kg joint would set you back a pricier £20 (91p per 100g).
The meat deals at Aldi are launching in stores on June 13 as part of its Specialbuys, meaning they’re only available as long as stocks last.
The discounter has more than 825 branches across the UK. You can find your nearest one using its store locator tool.
