Gold prices plummet Rs 766, silver also tumbles Rs 1,148

Gold prices plummeted by Rs 766 to Rs 40,634 per 10 gram in the national capital on Thursday amid a stronger rupee and weak global trends, according to HDFC Securities. Tracking weakness in gold, silver prices also tumbled Rs 1,148 to Rs 47,932 per kg from Rs 49,080 per kg in the previous trade. The precious metal had closed at Rs 41,400 per 10 gram on Wednesday. C'garh: Former CM's personal assistant held for minor's rape

A personal assistant of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a minor girl, police here said. Om Prakash Gupta was arrested in the early hours of Thursday based on a complaint lodged by the 16-year-old victim at women's police station here, a senior police official said. According to the complainant, in 2015, her parents left her in Gupta's care after he promised to take care of her education, following which the abuse began in 2016 and lasted till December 2019. School headmistress found dead in gutter

The headmistress of a panchayat union school was found dead in a gutter near here on Thursday, police said. Kalarani (50), the head of Ponnarampatti Panchayat Union School, was reportedly in the habit of drinking and she was on leave for the past two days, the police said. Passersby found Kalarani's body in the gutter and informed the police. The body has been shifted for a postmortem, they said, adding that a case of suspicious death has been registered. Kalarani, married to Syed Hamid, has three sons and a daughter.

Wednesday brought about an intense second night on Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time. Ken Jennings barely edged out James Holzhauer on the first night, while Brad Rutter struggled. The second night was more of the same, but this time is was James's turn to win the match.
