The FCC today announced the conclusion of auction 105, which sold the rights to 70 MHz of new licensed spectrum near 3.5 GHz for 5G service. 20,625 licenses for specific frequencies and geographic areas were sold for over $4.6 billion in total. The frequencies involved are within 3.55–3.65 GHz. Details of which companies won which licenses will be released by the FCC in a few days. 3.5 GHz is also known as "mid-band" spectrum, which has properties that should allow 5G service to offer a good balance of speed and coverage.
