Since the end of February 2020 a severe diffusion of COVID-19 has affected Italy and in particular its northern regions, resulting in a high demand of hospitalizations in particular in the intensive care units (ICUs). Hospitals are suffering the high degree of patients to be treated for respiratory diseases and the majority of the health structures, especially in the north of Italy, are or are at risk of saturation. Therefore, the question... Читать дальше...

IntroductionPoor access to water, sanitation, and handwashing (WASH) facilities frequently contribute to child growth failure. The role of access to WASH facilities on child growth outcomes in Ethiopia is largely unknown. The aim of this study was to determine individual and combined effects of access to WASH facilities on child growth outcomes.
MethodsData for this analysis was sourced from the recent Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) 2016. Читать дальше...

Least Cost Path (LCP) analysis allows a user to define a cost parameter through which cost of movement can be assessed using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). These analyses are commonly used to construct theoretical movement through a landscape, which has been useful for creating hypotheses concerning prehistoric archaeology and landscape genomics. However, LCP analysis is commonly employed without testing the generated LCP(s), complicating its usefulness as a methodological tool. Читать дальше...

Electronic circuits and systems employed in mission- and safety-critical applications such as space, aerospace, nuclear plants etc. tend to suffer from multiple faults due to radiation and other harsh external phenomena. To overcome single or multiple faults from affecting electronic circuits and systems, progressive module redundancy (PMR) has been suggested as a potential solution that recommends the use of different levels of redundancy for the vulnerable... We compare the Malliavin-Mancino and Cuchiero-Teichmann Fourier instantaneous estimators to investigate the impact of the Epps effect arising from asynchrony in the instantaneous estimates. We demonstrate the instantaneous Epps effect under a simulation setting and provide a simple method to ameliorate the effect. We find that using the previous tick interpolation in the Cuchiero-Teichmann estimator results in unstable estimates when dealing with asynchrony, while the ability... Читать дальше...

DNA topoisomerase II (topo II) is an essential enzyme that regulates DNA topology by DNA cleavage and re-ligation. In vertebrates, there are two isozymes, α and β. The C-terminal domain (CTD) of the isozymes, which shows a low degree of sequence homology between α and β, is involved in each isozyme-specific intracellular behavior. The CTD of topo IIβ is supposedly involved in topo II regulation. Topo IIβ is maintained in an inactive... Читать дальше...

Background and purposeNon-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) and assessment of collateral flow with multiphase computed tomography angiography (CTA) have been investigated as predictors of clinical outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke. This study assessed the value of multiphase CTA ASPECTS in predicting final infarction core and clinical outcome in patients undergoing endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
