The Sims 4 is free to download to your computer and keep FOREVER – but it ends today
YOU can now get the Sims 4 for free on your computer, for nothing.
The offer has been running for a week, and runs out at 6 p.m. today – but as long as you have started to download it by then, it’s yours to keep and play for as long as you like.
If you want to play The Sims 4 on consoles then you’ll still have to pony up, alas, as the offer is only available on PC.
To get it you’ll need an EA Origin Account, and you’ll have to install EA’s Origin launcher.
Doing all that is perfectly simple, though – just click ‘get it free’ on the game’s page on the Origin web store front and it’ll guide you through the process.
You will get the option to sign up for EA’s Origin Access passes when you do this, but you can safely ignore them and just click the button at the bottom to get The Sims 4 for free without them.
Origin Access basic does include the Digital Deluxe edition of the game, but all that includes is a set of animal hats, some party decorations for your Sims’ houses, and a digital copy of the game’s soundtrack that you can play outside the game.
If you want any of the six expansions or 26 ‘Stuff Packs’ that have come out since The Sims 4 was first released in 2014, you’ll have to shell out, even during the free trial week.
With expansions costing £34.99 and other packs costing up to £19.99, the total price can add up if you fall down the inevitable rabbit hole.
The Sims 4 lets you customise your Sims and their houses more than ever before, with the different packs offering you different ways to play and different paths to go down depending on what you enjoy.
The most recent pack, StrangerVille, for instance sets you up in a desert town, and features an X-Files style mystery to solve and appropriate clothes to dress your Sims in as they do it.
Other packs include everything from hallowe’en decorations, Vampire-themed content and kitchen stuff.

EA also confirmed that they will offer refunds to anyone who had bought a copy in the past two weeks if they are yet to play it, or within 24 hours of starting to play.
If you’re worried about downloading the Origin launcher after reading about its security woes, you can rest easy – that flaw has been patched.
If you’re in the mood for more free PC games, then remember that Overwatch is also free this week – but unlike The Sims 4, that is only free for the duration of the offer.
