Dominic Raab mocked for ‘Partridge-esque’ headturn to camera at start of leadership announcement video
DOMINIC Raab was today mocked for his Alan Partridge-style headturn at the start of his leadership announcement video.
The 45-year-old stepped up his campaign for the Tory leadership by releasing a video to his 50,000 Twitter followers this afternoon.
He set out a desire to end “consumer rip-offs” and help young people get on the housing ladder as part of his plan to deliver “fairness”.
However, at the start of the 58-second clip, he turned left to face the camera in what some people are claiming was just like the comic character portrayed by Steve Coogan.
In the episode Watership Alan, Partridge was filmed reviewing the Norfolk Broads while standing on a riverboat.
“RAAB IS PARTRIDGE!”
He started the piece by turning his head towards the camera after telling a woman: “Absolutely!”
But as the boat made its way underneath a bridge, Partridge was famously flattened by a cow and screamed: “I feel an udder on my leg.”
Uploading a Partridge meme online, one Twitter user wrote: “OMG Raab is Partridge! Absolutely!”
Another person added: “That look to camera! Like an Alan Partridge corporate video.”
“FAIRNESS”
In his video message, Mr Raab said: “Fairness. For me that word means cutting taxes for the lowest paid.
“It means ending consumer rip-offs. And it means cutting the cost of living for working families.
“Fairness means building a fairer society so young people have greater opportunities, whether it is to get on the housing ladder or giving them more choice, for example through degree apprenticeships.”
Highlighting his own experience, he added: “Fairness is what I have been fighting for all my working life.

“We live in an age when the actions of competent leaders and good government can and should go a long way to making the world a fairer place.
“And that driving conviction, that things can and will be fairer, should be at the heart of what the future of the Conservative Party is all about.”
It comes after Tory MP Rory Stewart posted a bizarre video on Twitter where it looks like he’s holding the mobile phone whilst recording himself.
People on Twitter accused the 46-year-old of “pretending” to hold the camera to record his leadership campaign video.
