Celebrity pastry chef Yigit Pura’s new gig (hello, concert-goers)
When you head to the Mountain Winery in Saratoga this season, you’ll find more than one celebrity on the concert bill.
San Francisco culinary star Yigit Pura, the fan favorite who won the inaugural “Top Chef: Just Desserts” competition, is now the executive pastry chef for Global Gourmet, the venue’s new catering company. (Fun fact: His first name, Yigit, rhymes with “sweet.”)
He already had an impressive resume before finding TV fame, working locally at Postrio and Gary Danko and in New York at Le Cirque and the Four Seasons before becoming executive pastry chef for Daniel Boulud Brasserie in Las Vegas. After the show, he launched the Tout Sweet patisseries.
For the Mountain Winery, he’s created three desserts that you’ll find if you dine on the Chateau Deck before your concert ($79 prix fixe for three courses). There’s the Strawberry Delice, with fresh berries, mascarpone-orange mousse and a vanilla-almond genoise cake; Upside-Down Passion Fruit and Raspberry Tart with raspberry-lime sorbet; and the Negroni Creamsicle, a signature dessert he says has “evolved over the years.” This iteration is a citrus- and vanilla-bean-scented panna cotta with a Campari-citrus gelee, accompanied by blood orange and grapefruit supremes.
Look for other desserts at the venue as he finds inspiration in the lineup of musical acts. And for those fans of Pura’s macarons, we’ve already planted a bug in his ear: We’d love to see these divine treats sold in small packs that you can take back to your seat and nibble on.
