Gas leak spurs Pinole neighborhood evacuation
PINOLE — Officials were working to evacuate residents from a neighborhood after a substantial natural-gas leak, authorities said.
Around 11:50 a.m., Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters received word that a gas line had broken in the 700 block of Pine Avenue, ConFire spokesman Steve Hill said.
Upon arrival, a ConFire engine called for a second engine and battalion chief to assist. County hazardous-materials crew was also summoned, Hill said.
The county’s community warning system said homes east of Appian Way and west of Alvarez Avenue, south of San Pablo Avenue and north of Pine were being evacuated.
There were no immediate reports of any injury or property damage.
