Boy life-flighted to East Bay hospital after near-drowning
ANTIOCH — A 10-year-old boy was airlifted to an East Bay hospital Tuesday after a near-drowning incident at a water park, authorities said Tuesday.
At 11:22 a.m., Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to Antioch Water Park, 4701 Lone Tree Way, for a report of CPR being performed on the boy, ConFire spokesman Steve Hill said.
Firefighters responded to the park immediately, calling for a Cal-Star medical helicopter en route, and arrived to find the boy awake and breathing, Hill said.
The boy was taken to a nearby helispot, where the helicopter then flew him to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland for treatment.
“It goes without saying that we’re at the official start of the summer season,” Hill said, noting the Antioch water park’s opening last Friday. “It’s very important to be cognizant of water-safety rules, which residents and families can find online.”
Antioch police also responded to the scene, but there was no immediate report of any related investigation.
