It’s All-Star vote time, and changes abound!

Based on how the season has started, the Rays should have some reps in Cleveland this year

The All-Star Game is fast approaching, and MLB is introducing a new style of voting to assemble the rosters for the Midsummer Classic.

Instead of the traditional ballot where fans selected players at each position of the diamond, and the top vote getters were automatically placed into the starting lineup of their respective league’s team (being dubbed, ‘The Primary Round.’); the top three players at each position will advance to ‘The Starters Election.’

The Primary Round kicks off this afternoon and will conclude on June 21 at 4:00 p.m.

Fans can vote up to five times a day during the Primary Round.

Once The Primary Round is over, the top three vote getters from each position, as well as the top nine in the outfield, will be placed into The Starters Election.

The Starters Election will kick off at noon Wednesday, June 26 and conclude at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.

During The Starters Election, each player’s vote totals from The Primary Round will be wiped clean, and they’ll start fresh on the new ballot.

Fans can only vote once on the new ballot during the 28-hour period.

The winners of the The Starters Election will be announced live during the MLB Network’s broadcast of a game between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees starting at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 27.

The rest of the All-Star Game rosters will be revealed at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, on ESPN.

Among the changes to the All-Star Game itself will be the introduction of baserunners starting the inning on base, if the game were to go into extras. Players that had been previously removed from the game, may re-enter the game to run the bases.
