After 13 years on the air, might NBC’s reality TV show “America’s Got Talent” finally have finally found its first dance group champion? In Wednesday’s Season 14 premiere, “AGT” fans will meet V.Unbeatable, a dance crew from Mumbai, India who persevered despite living in the slums. “Life in Mumbai is very hard,” the group’s leader tells judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough. “The [people] in slums, they don’t get proper water and everything there is — sorry,” he begins as he breaks down in tears. Watch the audition video above, which has already gone viral on social media.
V.Unbeatable consists of 28 dancers, age 12 to 27. Before their routine on the “AGT” stage, the lead dancer explain more about their day-to-day life in Mumbai. “Many of the members of our group live in slums,” he says. “The slums are very crowded, very dirty, and they don’t get proper electricity. Often seven to 10 people are staying in one room. It is very challenging to survive over there. Each day we pray for a better life, but in the slums there is very little opportunity for us. When we dance we forget all the tensions in our mind, and we feel free.”
He continues on, “”For the past two weeks we are not able to sleep. This opportunity could change our life and everyone wants to succeed to give back to their families. We used to see ‘America’s Got Talent’ on YouTube. We were like, can we go here, like someday? We were just dreaming about it, and today we are here. I can’t explain it in words. It’s our dream come true.”
New judge Gabrielle asks them what their future holds in the event that they join the “AGT” winners list, and the leader responds, “We want the world to know it was V.Unbeatable.” The routine consists of fast-paced movements to the song “Malhari” by Vishal Dadlani, with some of the adult members throwing the younger kids high up into the air. The best part of the act is when they bring out tall bamboo poles and toss up dancers to tiptoe across them.
All four judges give V.Unbeatable a standing ovation, but to hear their individual comments you must tune into NBC on Tuesday, May 28 when the season premiere airs from 8-10 p.m. Are you excited for Season 14 of “AGT”? Sound off down in the comments section.
