South Africa seal the two series in very different ways

The South African and Namibian U18 sides returned to Stellenbosch this evening in order to take each other on in the second of a three match junior test series, contesting for the Allistar Fredericks trophy. The South African sides had won the opening test on Sunday on looked to seal the series at a chilly Maties Hockey Stadium.

For the first time in three years the SA U18 teams got to play in an international test series. The U18 Boys and girls who were selected at the end of the recently completed IPT had the opportunity to don their national colours for the first time in a three-game series against Southern African neighbours Namibia. The series would be contested to win the Allistair Fredericks Trophy, named in honour of the late South African hockey icon.

Terrasa, Spain – It was the heart break that Canada was just minutes away from avoiding as an Indian goal in the 58th minute tied the game 1-1 and 16 shootout attempts landed 3-2 in favour of the No. 9-ranked Eves. Maddie Secco (Victoria, B.C.) scored on a penalty corner in the 11th minute to put Canada on the front foot but the WolfPack were forced to absorb waves of Indian pressure and ultimately concede the tying goal to Tete Salima in the 58th minute.

India and Japan were victorious in their classification ties at the Women’s International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cup as both teams seek to end their competition on a high.

Late drama in Terrassa as Japan and India find winning ways

It was tense and dramatic to the very end in both of today's matches in the 9-16th place matches. First Japan waited until the final second of the game to break Korea's hearts and then India hauled Canada back, first in the dying minutes of the match and then in the shoot-out to win their first match of the World Cup.
