Sandfire proceeds with Botswana expansion amid record sales

Copper miner Sandfire Resources has reported record sales revenue for the 2022 financial year, while also announcing positive results for a definitive feasibility study (DFS) into expansion plans at its Motheo copper project, in Botswana. Sandfire on Tuesday reported record sales revenues of A$922.7-million for the full year ended June, up from the A$609-million achieved in the previous corresponding period, with copper sales increasing from 65 689 t to 93 827 t.

Germany has said the massive deaths of fish in the Oder river were due to man-made pollution and blamed Poland for not sharing information fast enough. The reasons were "multiple and man-made" and linked to "heat, low water levels and man-made discharges", German federal environment Minister Steffi Lemke said Monday, German media reported. "If we had been informed faster by Poland, we could have reacted faster," she said.

Solomon Islands to ban American navy ships from ports: US embassy

"On August 29, the United States received formal notification from the Government of Solomon Islands regarding a moratorium on all naval visits, pending updates in protocol procedures," the embassy said in a statement. A spokesman for Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare earlier denied the reports of a moratorium, and told Reuters that Sogavare would make a speech on Tuesday afternoon.

IGO reports record earnings

Critical minerals miner Independence Group (IGO) has reported record underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) on the back of a 34% increase in revenue for the full year ended June. During the 2022 financial year, IGO generated revenues of A$903-million, up from the A$672-million generated in the previous 12 months, with underlying Ebitda increasing from A$475-million to a record A$717-million in the same period.
