Factors influencing health service utilization among mothers for under-five children: A cross-sectional study in Khulna district of Bangladesh

Plos.org

by Shahinur Akter

Although Bangladesh has made significant progress in reducing child mortality, proper utilization of health services for under-five children among mothers remains one of the major challenges. Hence, this study was designed to investigate the factors influencing health service utilization among mothers for under-five children in the Khulna district of Bangladesh. Administering a semi-structured interview schedule, data were collected from 364 randomly selected mothers from the study area between June and August 2021. Читать дальше...

Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) based COVID-19 health impact assessment: A systematic review protocol

Plos.org

by Daniel Teshome Gebeyehu, Leah East, Stuart Wark, Md Shahidul Islam

Background

COVID-19 is a highly contagious infectious disease that emerged in 2019. This disease is causing devastating health, socio-economic, and economic crises. More specifically COVID-19 is affecting both the quality and length of human life. The overall health impact of this disease is measured by the disability-adjusted life years which is the sum of the life years lost due to disability (the effect on the health... Читать дальше...

Factors affecting local plant knowledge in isolated communities from Patagonian steppe: Metacommunity theory is revealed as a methodological approach

Plos.org

by Flávia Rosa Santoro, Marina Richeri, Ana Haydée Ladio

The Patagonian steppe is a refuge for several indigenous peoples who live in relatively isolated communities, depending heavily on natural resources for their activities, health, and food security. The local ecological knowledge is a reservoir that generates full wellbeing and for which it must be the object of protection and local development. In this study, we aimed to find which factors can influence local ecological knowledge from a metacommunity on the Patagonian steppe. Читать дальше...

Time to doubling of serum creatinine in patients with diabetes in Ethiopian University Hospital: Retrospective follow-up study

Plos.org

by Adeladlew Kassie Netere, Ashenafi Kibret Sendekie

Background

Diabetic kidney disease is one of the long-term microvascular complications of diabetes. Doubling of serum creatinine is an important biomarker and predictor of diabetic kidney disease for patients with diabetes. This study aimed to determine the time in which the serum creatinine level is doubled measured from the baseline in patients with diabetes in Ethiopian University Hospital.

The perceived value of human-AI collaboration in early shape exploration: An exploratory assessment

Plos.org

by Andrés Arias-Rosales

As a vital element of early shape exploration, divergence can be time-consuming and challenging, with iterative cycles where idea fixation and creative blocks must be overcome for fuzzy ideas to be fully expanded and understood. Despite interesting tools that have been developed for this purpose, some important challenges remain, as it appears that many designers still prefer simple freehand sketching and tend to defer the use of computational tools to later stages. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor initiation and hepatocellular carcinoma prognosis

Plos.org

by Michael Hendryx, Yi Dong, Jonas M. Ndeke, Juhua Luo

Introduction

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a relatively new class of antidiabetic drugs. Emerging findings from laboratory studies indicate that SGLT2 inhibitors can improve liver function and suppress the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that initiation of SGLT2 inhibitors improves HCC prognosis in a human population.

Methods

We used National Surveillance... Читать дальше...

A novel framework for discovery and reuse of typical process route driven by symbolic entropy and intelligent optimisation algorithm

Plos.org

by Chunlei Li

Manufacturing enterprises accumulate numerous manufacturing instances as they run and develop. Being able to excavate and apply the instance resources reasonably is one of the most effective approaches to improve manufacturing and support innovation. A novel framework for the discovery and reuse of typical process routes driven by symbolic entropy and intelligent optimisation algorithm so as to scientifically determine reuse objects and raise the reuse flexibility is proposed in this paper. Is it too late now to say we’re sorry? Examining anxiety contagion and crisis communication strategies using machine learning

Plos.org

by Dritjon Gruda, Adegboyega Ojo

In this paper, we explore the role of perceived emotions and crisis communication strategies via organizational computer-mediated communication in predicting public anxiety, the default crisis emotion. We use a machine-learning approach to detect and predict anxiety scores in organizational crisis announcements on social media and the public’s responses to these posts. We also control for emotional and language tones in organizational crisis responses using a separate machine learning algorithm. Читать дальше...

Death-coping self-efficacy and its influencing factors among Chinese nurses: A cross-sectional study

Plos.org

by Xi Lin, Xiaoqin Li, Yongqi Bai, Qin Liu, Weilan Xiang

Background

Nurses are the main caregivers of dying patients. Facing or dealing with death-related events is inevitable. Death-coping self-efficacy (DCS) is very important, as it can reduce the risk of nursing staff to adverse emotional distress, help them participate in end-of-life care and improve the quality of care of patients.

Methods

Using the convenient sampling method, this study included a total of 572 nurses from a tertiary hospital in Hangzhou, China. Читать дальше...

Attribution of country level foodborne disease to food group and food types in three African countries: Conclusions from a structured expert judgment study

Plos.org

by Amanda C. Sapp, Mirna P. Amaya, Arie H. Havelaar, Gabriela F. Nane

Background

According to the World Health Organization, 600 million cases of foodborne disease occurred in 2010. To inform risk management strategies aimed at reducing this burden, attribution to specific foods is necessary.

Objective

We present attribution estimates for foodborne pathogens (Campylobacter spp., enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC), Shiga-toxin producing E. coli, nontyphoidal Salmonella spp., Cryptosporidium spp.... Читать дальше...

TAMC: A deep-learning approach to predict motif-centric transcriptional factor binding activity based on ATAC-seq profile

Plos.org

by Tianqi Yang, Ricardo Henao

Determining transcriptional factor binding sites (TFBSs) is critical for understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating gene expression in different biological conditions. Biological assays designed to directly mapping TFBSs require large sample size and intensive resources. As an alternative, ATAC-seq assay is simple to conduct and provides genomic cleavage profiles that contain rich information for imputing TFBSs indirectly. Previous footprint-based tools...
