Editorial: Elusive reforms at Planning Authority

Times of Malta

The prime minister’s mantra for the past two years has been to promote continuity. He has now adopted a new mantra: stability and sustainability. Repercussions from construction Recently, I happened to be chatting with a person from Gozo while at a gathering. Our conversation got around to the construction frenzy going on in Gozo with no apparent control or consideration of the depleting soil and environment. His response shook me. A development in Qala. Photo: Matthew Mirabelli Though now retired, he happened to have been working in the construction business himself and, with a cheeky smile, he told me that the solution is not that easy. We have wrecked our villages and pillaged our countryside – Arnold Cassola

Times of Malta

Politicians blame one another for decisions taken in the past which have led to the current degradation of our towns and villages. What we should be asking our politicians now is: how are you going to pull the country out of the mess we are already all in before it gets any worse? Fortunately, Din l-Art Ħelwa and a few other NGOs have recently resorted to the law courts to declare guidelines issued by the Planning Authority (such as DC2015 and its annexes) unlawful and, thereby, void. These and... Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

If the events of March 23, 1530, had not taken place, we would have had no 58th anniversary of our independence to celebrate on Wednesday. We must thank Emperor Charles V for granting our islands to the Order of St John 492 years ago. That decision cut Malta’s umbilical cord with Sicily. It moved from being a remote barren outpost of the Sicilian archipelago and embarked on a new destiny of its own. On March 23, 1530, the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain Charles V declared that he was granting... Читать дальше...

Bullish on capex theme; 3 stocks to bet big on: Daljeet Singh Kohli

Economictimes.indiatimes.com

“Our basic premise is that the next leg of industrial capex will be not just capacity expansion but improvement in efficiency. Because of a lot of competition, all these companies are looking for automation and looking for ways of bringing more productivity. For that, all these companies like Honeywell, ABB and Siemens will play a very major role in Industry 4.0 .”
