According to court papers, the suspect, David DePape, in the attack on Paul Pelosi, told police he wanted to hold the House speaker hostage, and "break her kneecaps." It gets weirder. DePape told the authorities that he would only break her kneecaps if she lied, but he knew she wouldn't be forthcoming. So, naturally, he would break her kneecaps so "she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other Members of Congress there were consequences to actions."
