A group of 13 prisoners were released from Coimbatore Central Prison in the past two days as part of the celebrations of 75 years of independence. The inmates were not involved in any heinous crimes and had served at least 66 of their sentence. The state government issued an order to release them, and NGOs will assist them to find a livelihood.
