Fresh keeping decision and coordination of fresh agricultural products supply chain under carbon cap-and-trade

Plos.org

by Yang Yang, Guanxin Yao

Considering the carbon emissions caused by the fresh-keeping of fresh agricultural products, this paper studied the rules of fresh-keeping decision-making in the two-echelon fresh agricultural product supply chain led by suppliers under the carbon cap-and-trade policy. In addition, we designed two contracts, cost-sharing contract and two-part pricing contract, to coordinate the supplier’s fresh-keeping decision and the supply chain’s revenue. The results show that... Читать дальше...

Comparison of different New Radio (NR) waveforms for wireless communications

Plos.org

by A. K. M. Baki

New Radio (NR) waveforms of existing wireless communication systems need further improvement in order to support future wireless communications. NR is the radio interface technology proposed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for 5G. Prototype Filter (PF) of NR plays a vital role in performance improvement of wireless systems. NR waveforms can adapt in a better way to different channel conditions. Some of the NR filtering techniques are Filtered-OFDM (F-OFDM)... Читать дальше...

The contribution of the basal ganglia and cerebellum to motor learning: A neuro-computational approach

Plos.org

by Javier Baladron, Julien Vitay, Torsten Fietzek, Fred H. Hamker

Motor learning involves a widespread brain network including the basal ganglia, cerebellum, motor cortex, and brainstem. Despite its importance, little is known about how this network learns motor tasks and which role different parts of this network take. We designed a systems-level computational model of motor learning, including a cortex-basal ganglia motor loop and the cerebellum that both determine the response of central pattern generators in the brainstem. Applying a GAN-based classifier to improve transcriptome-based prognostication in breast cancer

Plos.org

by Cristiano Guttà, Christoph Morhard, Markus Rehm

Established prognostic tests based on limited numbers of transcripts can identify high-risk breast cancer patients yet are approved only for individuals presenting with specific clinical features or disease characteristics. Deep learning algorithms could hold potential for stratifying patient cohorts based on full transcriptome data, yet the development of robust classifiers is hampered by the number of variables in omics datasets typically far exceeding the number of patients. Predation drives complex eco-evolutionary dynamics in sexually selected traits

Plos.org

by Brian A. Lerch, Maria R. Servedio

Predation plays a role in preventing the evolution of ever more complicated sexual displays, because such displays often increase an individual’s predation risk. Sexual selection theory, however, omits a key feature of predation in modeling costs to sexually selected traits: Predation is density dependent. As a result of this density dependence, predator–prey dynamics should feed back into the evolution of sexual displays, which, in turn, feeds back into predator–prey dynamics. Читать дальше...

MLB news roundup

Happy Monday, Athletics Nation!

New changes are in effect for the 2023 MLB season that were designed to shorten games and make them more action-packed. These changes include a pitch clock, a shift ban, bigger bases, and limits on pickoff attempts. Tyler Kepner at The New York Times reported on the measured effects of these changes so far, and some reactions from players, coaches, and commentators to the quickened pace that has resulted. Royals Review

A deeper dive into Royals offensive futility

Last week I ran a piece on the history of futility of Royals middle infielders. The piece struck a nerve with many readers, good and bad, and that in turn led to some introspection. First off, if any of the players profiled were offended, I offer you my sincerest apology. If you’ve played one single inning in the field or taken one at-bat in a game, you are part of a very rare and exclusive fraternity. Only 20,272 men have ever played Major League Baseball and if you are one of them... Читать дальше...

Michelle Obama says being 'othered' made her want to be 'the best first lady'

TheHill.com

Michelle Obama says being "othered" as a child helped propel her aim to be "the best first lady.” “We cannot pretend that kids don't see when they're being devalued, because anytime it happened to me as early as kindergarten, I knew it,” Obama told David Letterman in a preview clip from Audible’s “Michelle Obama: The...

Here’s when you should actually say 'I love you,' according to experts

AOL.com

So much can go through your head when you say “I love you” for the first time. First, there’s the fear of rejection—maybe the person you’re saying it to doesn’t feel the same way. Then, there’s the fear that you’re not going to say it right. Or that you’ll say it too soon. And, of course, there’s the fear that when you’re face-to-face with that special someone, you'll feel overcome with nerves. The whole thing is an anxiety-infused ordeal.
