Hilarious, right? That was courtesy of this Reddit thread. Here is Tom Harwood, a British conservative commentator, making the ludicrous assertion that capitalism is “inherently altruistic”—until he has to pay over seven pounds for a pint of beer. Then it’s outrageous, it’s “theft.” No one forced him to buy that pint with a gun to his head. Someone provided a good (beer) that he wanted or needed (though hopefully not the latter), so he paid the price. That’s not theft, but it certainly isn’t altruistic.
